L3Pilot Online Expert Talks on Business Models

You want to learn more about L3Pilot business models for Automated Driving? Join our L3Pilot online expert talks and meet other experts from business, research and technology.

L3Pilot is the European flagship research project for large-scale piloting of SAE Level 3 functions and exploring new service concepts and business models to provide inclusive mobility.

L3Pilot partners developed four business environment scenarios for Automated Driving (AD) in 2030. Based upon these scenarios, four different business models – Robo-Taxi, In-Car Services, Data+ Platform, Mobility as a Service (MaaS) were considered as promising and viable business models for AD in ten years ahead.

To introduce, discuss, and evaluate the business models for AD, L3Pilot partners built up an online expert talks format. Since the business models require new cross-sector collaborations and touches highly sensitive issues like individual data sharing among different parties questions will be raised like: Is the business model addressing crucial user needs or does it cause major concerns (desirability)? Are there technical and/or non-technical challenges that could limit the implementation of the business models (feasibility and viability)?

Four coffee break live-webinars will be held on each Tuesday from 9 to 30 June 2020 to introduce the different business models. The webinars will be followed by later in-depth interviews with a small group of selected experts to consider key deployment challenges from different perspectives and discuss possible solutions from various fields of expertise.

Live-Webinar Robo-Taxi

Automated driving functions (SAE L4) enable the provision of a Robo-Taxi service to a broad target group. Within the ODD of the employed vehicles, the customer will get a flexible, affordable door-to-door service on demand. While being driven by a Robo-Taxi he/she is free to use the time for his/her activities, without the need to take over control of the vehicle.

The Robo-Taxi business model builds on contributions from multiple actors such as fleet operators, municipalities and vehicle manufacturers to provide a seamless travel experience to the user and allow the business model to compete with existing modes of urban transport.

Live-Webinar In-Car Services

Individual In-Car Service Experiences provide the driver/customer with the opportunity to use his/her time while driving an automated car for other activities than driving. While the car is driving in automated mode the driver might be open for additional services, like on-board entertainment, healthcare and well-being or shopping services, thus making his/her time more useful.

In order to create this value, different actors – from car manufacturers to providers of digital interface, service platform and (location-based) services – need to closely cooperate, establish digital interfaces and share data.

Live-Webinar Data+ Platform

To provide smart automated mobility services to the end users it is vital to securely organise, process and handle the huge amount of data of consumers and enterprises. The Data+ Platform enables the involved actors to create a marketplace for secure data handling, data enrichment and data sharing, which is completely manageable by its end users and the involved actors.

In order to create this value, different actors – from car manufacturers to providers of digital interfaces, service platform providers and (location-based) services – need to closely cooperate, establish digital interfaces and share data.

Live-Webinar Mobility as a Service with Automated Driving

Mobility as a Service (MaaS) provides the traveller with a seamless and on-demand mobility experience. The service combines and coordinates different modes of transport, such as public transport, micro-mobility, privately owned cars as well as a shared AD fleet, to meet the traveller’s changing needs. It can be focused on regular as well as more incidental travels. It includes Automated Driving vehicles where available and useful.

In order to co-create this value, different actors – from fleet operators, public transport operators and shared AD transport service operators, to a MaaS platform provider, city and regulatory authorities – need to closely cooperate to ensure a seamless travel while balancing the utilisation of the modalities.
